Lymphatic System Health

Boosting your lymphatic system can provide you with better health. Have you ever wondered where all the toxins go that are floating around in your body?  The lymphatic system collects the toxins that the blood stream filters throughout the body and then flushes it out through the lymphatic system. Here is the thing though, it doesn’t have a pump like the heart so you have to manually pump it. Many of us who sit daily and do not exercise are hindering our immune system from fully working. The system works in conjunction with the circulatory system. Make sure to perform the three strategies below to boost your lymphatic system.

The make up of the Lymphatic System

The lymphatic system is comprised of several lymph nodes, bone marrow, spleen, thymus and lymphatic vessels that carry the fluid.

The lymphatic fluid is a gel-like substance, it is located just under the skin and filters any toxins the blood does not. You have lymph nodes all through out your body. Your stomach hosts 600- 800, arm pits very from 20 to 30 lymph nodes, your groin holds approximately 10 and  your neck approximately 300.  There are several more behind the knees and through out the body but the aforementioned are the most discussed. Keeping your lymphatic flowing freely will boost the lymphatic system and your immune health.

When I was diagnosed with breast cancer, they removed 21 lymph nodes from my right axillary arm pit and one was cancerous. Therefore, I have to be very cautious not to have any compression on my right arm. When I need blood work or my blood pressure taken, I make sure they know to use my left arm. As a 20+ year breast cancer survivor I am very fortunate that I have not had any signs of lymph edema.

3 strategies to move your lymphatic fluid

In effect there is no pump to move the lymphatic fluid you need to create that pumping motion. Here are 3 strategies to help move your lymph fluid and keep you healthy.

  1.  Rub the notch just above the sternum, that is where all your lymphatic fluid drains to. Do this before you get out of bed in the morning. Take two fingers and rub down, making sure you don’t push back into the throat area, and vigorously rub in there. You want to start there first incase you have a blockage so it can be released before you do any other lymphatic work and cause edema.
  2. Take your fingers and pump behind the clavicle. Create a little pumping motion for about 30 to 60 seconds. Perform this throughout your day. Start out gentle, sometimes the muscle attachments are tender and sore. As you progress you should be able to get your fingers deeper behind the clavicle.
  3. Bounce on your toes.  Bouncing on your toes creates the pump you need to move the fluid. Bouncing on your toes for one to two minutes every morning will get your immune system moving. Walking and exercise are also great ways to move the fluid.

Performing these three helpful tips will boost your immune system naturally. With this in mind it will also help aid in the prevention of disease and illness.  Check out the link from Very Well Health for more in depth information https://www.verywellhealth.com/lymphatic-system-diagram-function-anatomy-diseases-5209610
